Out with the sheep and in with the corn

How to start? Well, Joe and I were getting a little tired of waiting for the sheep farm so we thought we would expand our circle of interest. On Friday we toured a few places and found a new place to hang our dreams. It's on M-57 just East of Showboat Autosales and it's just beautiful. The house isn't really in the best part of the property and we are trying to figure out what's the best plan for the future. Sell the house and a small amount of land, rent it out, see if our house in town sells first. There are a lot of variables but the possibility to build our own home farther back on the property is an amazing dream that didn't even exist before we stepped on the premises. The 5 bedroom farmhouse was built in 1909 and last updated around 1960, but it has a lot of character. There are 2 barns, a garage and a rental house on one side of the front and a wide open space that opens up to the back and 14 acres of woods. The big red barn is by far the coolest and my mother-in-law is already ready to plan a party in it. (sheesh, Greenfelders!)
We got the call today at 3:10 that our offer was accepted and so in a couple of weeks we are going to have to figure out what's going where and what we need to start working on, painting on, cleaning up. The kids went out and saw it today and were really excited, but a little confused. "So we're buying it but not living in it? huh?" Brendan actually said "It's like an adventure, isn't it?" So true baby. Life is never dull and just when you think you've figured out what you want a nicer, cheeper piece of excitement comes your way.

Does the main house (oooh, you have a main house) have good bones? If so, I vote for remodeling it, but I wouldn't be the one living in the middle of a massive home renovation project so I guess my vote doesn't really count.

Either way, congratulations to you and your clan! Exciting!

Hot Dog!!! But I don't know if I can associate with people who "live out of town" - it might be a long drive! Let me know what I can do to help - next June.

Sweet. Lisa you are really going to enjoy having some space to breath. I love old farm houses, so I'd vote for that too, but you need to figure out what works best for your fam. If you can't live with crooked walls, and floors and ceilings, build something. The barn is totally awesome too. Much better than the sheep barn!

I just went to the bank and took a good look at your new house. The house is much larger than it appears on this picture. I can see lots of potential there! It reminds me a bit of our house.

Congrats! I vote for renovating and living the barn! Seriously. People do that.

The house IS really cool and just needs some updating, but it's too close to the road. We will probably be living there for a while (if someone wants to live at the Village house) and we could see where we go from there. The kids have picked out there own rooms already and want to get to work painting and cleaning. It's nice to have them so excited about something that could have been really scary for them.

When you have keys, Carol and I are demanding a tour.
